The trademark of the Baumanns Cave is the special wealth of unique and different formations and structures of stalactites and stalagmites.
On guided tours and about about 300 steps down the path deep into the Harz mountains, our cave guides will tell you everything you need to know about the Baumann cave, its stalactites and the cave dwellers in around 50 minutes.
The cave was discovered in the 16th century by the miner Friedrich Baumann, but at that time it was more or less by chance. Organized tours of the cave have been taking place since 1646.
The most famous visitor to this unique stalactite cave is and remains Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. He visited the cave several times and is name giver of the largest cavity inside the Baumanns Cave, the Goethe Hall.
On the beautiful underground natural stage in the Goethe Hall, theater performances and concerts take place in the middle of the dreamlike scenery of stalactites and stalagmites. Couples can also say yes here.
